What is a planar headphone? What are its advantages over dynamic drivers?

The dynamic drivers found in most headphones use voice coils that drive limited areas of the diaphragm, so much of the diaphragm is not used to its full capacity. Planar drivers, on the other hand, have conductive layers covering almost the entire diaphragm, resulting in much lower distortion than conventional dynamic drivers.

The closed-back Sundara uses the remarkable Stealth Magnets. Their special shape makes them more acoustically transparent, greatly reducing distortion.
