HIFIMAN Svanar Wireless 2: the R-2R DAC now fits on a single chip

Three years ago, HIFIMAN surprised everyone by fitting an R-2R converter inside a pair of true wireless earbuds — an architecture most of us assumed belonged to desktop DACs. The Svanar Wireless cost $499 and weighed 8 grams per earbud, with two stacked circuit boards to house the converter and its amplifier. The second generation, announced on 2 September 2026, packs the same idea into far less space — and for $299.

One chip where two stages were needed

It all comes down to the new HYMALAYA Mini, a miniaturised version of HIFIMAN's in-house DAC. Where the first iteration called for two stacked PCBs, the Mini brings the R-2R ladder onto a single dedicated chip. And not by cutting corners: HIFIMAN claims twice the number of resistors in a space five times smaller, which should show up in both detail retrieval and soundstage width.

“The original Svanar Wireless required a two-PCB stacked architecture to accommodate its DAC and amplifier,” explains Dr. Fang Bian, Founder and CEO of HIFIMAN. The space saved is immediately tangible: 7.4 g per earbud instead of 8 g, and above all a more compact housing that HIFIMAN describes as approaching the fit and stability of a custom in-ear monitor.

Converter and amplifier each keep their own turf

This is what really sets the Svanar Wireless 2 apart from the rest of the TWS market. Most wireless earbuds fold conversion and amplification into a single integrated block; here, the amplifier is an independent balanced Class AB stage with its own defined role in the internal architecture. That separation is usually found in home components — and HIFIMAN already applies it to an over-ear model with the Ananda BT R2R.

The transducer itself is a 10 mm dynamic driver fitted with the brand's Topology Diaphragm: a nanoparticle coating applied to the membrane, meant to deliver a level of detail you would not normally expect from this form factor.

The rest of the spec sheet

On paper, the Svanar Wireless 2 gives up nothing on modern convenience: Bluetooth 6.0, support for high-resolution L2HC and LDAC streams, active noise cancellation rated up to −35 dB and an IPX5 rating against sweat and dust. HIFIMAN also announces an in-house mobile app, still to come, for firmware updates, touch gesture customisation and EQ.

HIFIMAN is announcing a September 2026 release at $299, initially through its own online store and Amazon. European pricing and timing have not been announced yet — we will update this page as soon as the distributor confirms them.
