The HIFIMAN Arya Wireless won the Diapason d'or! The revolution in wireless high-fidelity
Share
This is a huge spotlight for the world of exceptional headphones. In its Summer 2026 issue, the prestigious magazine Diapason published a major test bench comparing no less than 21 headphones. Amidst this fierce competition, the brand new HIFIMAN Arya Wifi won the highest distinction: the Diapason d'or. The editorial team is full of praise, hailing it as a "true innovation that will make history."
Here's why this model completely shakes up the codes of wireless listening.
An "indoor nomad" at the heart of planar engineering
Let's lay the groundwork right away: the Arya Wifi is not designed to accompany you in the rain or on public transport. Weighing 452g, without active noise cancellation (ANC), and sensitive to external elements, these headphones are defined as an "indoor nomad" designed exclusively for domestic, sedentary listening, safely indoors.
In terms of architecture, HIFIMAN remains true to its legendary expertise. We find very large planar magnetic transducers of approximately 50 × 70 mm working almost in free air. The earcups integrate an external protective grille, a fine square-mesh fabric, and a felt screen with a precise star-shaped cutout. A conductive grid is applied to this ultra-light diaphragm, animated by a powerful array of bar magnets.
Wifi: The ultimate weapon against Bluetooth limitations
This is where HIFIMAN achieves a true technological revolution. Until now, high-fidelity enthusiasts shunned wireless due to the limited bandwidth of Bluetooth (1 to 2 MB/s), which is insufficient for transmitting high-resolution audio streams without compression. Although the Arya Wifi offers comprehensive Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity (SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC) with an integrated microphone, the manufacturer chose to break the glass ceiling by integrating a Wifi connection.
Thanks to a network throughput of 633 MB/s, the headphones process all existing lossless formats. To manage this configuration, power management offers approximately 7 hours of battery life with Wifi and up to 23 hours with Bluetooth. A USB-C port is also present for charging or for switching to wired direct playback, while a dedicated application will simplify its integration into the home network.
A true miniaturized sedentary hi-fi system
The great achievement of the Arya Wifi is to have housed electronics of a rare demanding level directly in its earcups. We're not talking about a simple receiver, but a complete high-end audio chain:
- Digital-to-Analog Conversion (DAC): Entrusted to the proprietary R2R Hymalaya architecture, capable of decoding PCM streams up to 32 bits / 768 kHz and DSD512.
- Amplification: An amplification section working in pure Class AB to give body, dynamics, and texture to the signal.
The listening verdict: "High-fidelity, at last!"
During listening, Diapason's conclusions are unequivocal: the total optimization of the chain (from the streaming protocol to the internal amplifiers) delivers stunning performance. The headphones are distinguished by a particularly extended frequency response, exemplary linearity, and remarkable clarity.
The airiness of the soundstage and the spatialization immediately recall the sensations obtained with the best open models powered by imposing external sedentary amplifiers, perfectly simulating free-field listening. The magazine perfectly summarizes the experience: it is "true portable hi-fi."
