Dual-slope optical compressor

The Governor, also known as the GLA-OC1, is an optical valve compressor whose dual-slope design and two thresholds allow for advanced dynamics control. It draws on the dynamics section of the Bishop which, while not the main function of that channel strip, had become extremely popular.

The Governor can operate in dual-mono or stereo modes, always with precise parameters. It allows advanced control over most commonly encountered dynamics processing tasks. Thanks to its valve output transformer, it can deliver the valve saturation effect so appreciated in the Empress EQ. Based on user feedback, Gainlab has made it configurable with emphasis options across the whole spectrum or on the highs only. The unit now includes a side-chain filter option and is ready to receive external side-chain signals. The visual indicator has also been brought to the fore, offering a far more informative display than the classic VU meter approach, giving users a more accurate representation of signal state changes, and allowing the compressor's two thresholds to be set far more intuitively.
