Stereo valve saturator
In recent years, audio production has shifted from large commercial studios towards more compact, home-studio-oriented setups. These smaller studios are often built around digital audio workstations (DAWs) and use fewer outboard units, partly because of space constraints. Yet demand for classic analogue tones and characteristics remains strong across the industry.
That demand led to the development of saturators offering a distinctive sound and a wide range of adjustment options, letting users instantly add analogue warmth to any source — individual tracks, buses or the mastering stage — all in a compact format.
Many Gainlab Audio users reported that the most frequently used function on their units was the Tube Boost. That finding prompted the creation of a dedicated device offering fully adjustable tube saturation, ensuring the sound suits a wide range of production scenarios.
That device is the GLA-TS1 Wizard Stereo Tube Saturator. The input and output controls let users easily adjust the saturation level to suit the character of the source signal and their personal taste, with further adjustment available through the Feed function. Using the clean signal captured at the input, Feed can remove the clean signal content from the output, providing extra control when dialling in the desired saturation level.
As a valve device, the Wizard includes a Bias control. It shapes the tonal character of the saturation, offering not only a high-pass filter but also a three-band equaliser with presets. This unique approach lets the character of the sound vary across extremely wide frequency ranges. The unit provides visual feedback on output levels as well as on the amount of saturation. Users can also influence the dynamic aspects of the saturation using the Pressure control, which works on the vari-mu compressor principle and has its own dedicated indicator.
