Wireless planar magnetic headphones
The HiFiMAN HE1000 WiFi builds on the architecture of the acclaimed HE1000 — a reference planar magnetic headphone — by embedding a complete digital system into it. An R2R DAC, amplification and wireless connectivity are built directly into the earcups. The result: a headphone that can operate on its own, with no external amplifier or source, while retaining a clearly high-end ambition.
WiFi streaming: the real gap versus Bluetooth
The HE1000 WiFi relies on WiFi audio transmission to work around the limits of Bluetooth. Where Bluetooth compresses the signal, WiFi provides enough bandwidth to carry high-resolution lossless audio. You can therefore make full use of services such as Qobuz or Tidal at a quality far above conventional codecs.
Planar magnetic + Stealth Magnet
Here you find the technological core of the HE1000: a planar magnetic transducer paired with a nanometre diaphragm and Stealth Magnets. This combination reduces turbulence and improves signal transparency. The result is an extremely detailed, fast and coherent reproduction across the whole spectrum, with a particularly wide soundstage.
Himalaya R2R DAC and integrated amplification
The HE1000 WiFi integrates a proprietary R2R DAC (Himalaya Mini), coupled with internal amplification. This choice matters: HiFiMAN does not simply add wireless, it offers a complete audio chain optimised in-house. The headphone can also run as USB audio, making it a true all-in-one system.
Sound signature: flagship level
This is typical HE1000 reproduction: clean and articulate bass, very natural mids, extremely detailed yet controlled treble. The soundstage is vast, with excellent layer separation. This is clearly a headphone aimed at critical listening and demanding audiophiles.
An extreme positioning
The HE1000 WiFi does not seek to replace a conventional headphone, but an entire setup. It is a radical proposition: integrating streamer, DAC and amplifier into a high-end open-back headphone. An innovative approach, but one that imposes a trade-off: accepting a fixed chain in exchange for maximum simplicity.
