DSP room correction processor

The miniDSP DDRC-24 is a digital audio processor that corrects the influence of your room on your speakers' sound. Using Dirac Live technology, it measures your system's response in its real listening environment and then applies both amplitude and time-domain correction, for a more precise soundstage and tighter, better-controlled bass. All in the smallest Dirac Live hardware box on the market, slotted between your source and your amplification.

Connectivity and inputs/outputs

The DDRC-24 accepts a stereo source over analog (RCA), USB, or optical TOSLINK, and features four unbalanced RCA analog output channels. This 2-in / 4-out configuration works equally well for classic stereo use or for actively driving subwoofers or bi-amplified speakers. The DAC section supports USB streaming up to 192 kHz, and the unbalanced inputs are jumper-switchable between 4Vrms and 2Vrms to match your source's output level.

Dirac Live room correction

At the heart of the DDRC-24, a 400 MHz Analog Devices SHARC ADSP21489 processor runs the Dirac Live algorithm across two channels, with an input-output mixing matrix and a full set of DSP functions (filters, EQ, delay, gain) available on each output channel. The correction acts on both the frequency response and the time-domain response of the room, going further than a simple equalizer that only addresses level. An XMOS Xcore200 processor handles USB control and bidirectional audio streaming with the computer.

Software compatibility and use cases

A Dirac Live license is included: all you need is a calibrated measurement microphone (such as the UMIK-1, not included) and a computer to run the calibration. The DDRC-24 is also compatible with Room EQ Wizard (REW) for taking preliminary measurements and checking the correction results. In home hi-fi setups, it compensates for a difficult room, constrained speaker placement, or bass resonance modes; in studio or home-studio use, it calibrates a monitoring system for neutral listening and mixes that translate correctly elsewhere.
