Closed on-ear studio headphones

The Phonon SMB-02G is the successor to Phonon's famous SMB-02. Launched in 2022 and tuned by Isao Kumano, mastering engineer and founder of Phonon, it delivers deep, powerful bass with no loss of dynamics, in a compact on-ear design.

A 40 mm driver with a Nomex diaphragm

The SMB-02G uses a 40 mm dynamic driver with a Nomex diaphragm, a material found in high-end loudspeakers. It inherits the "free edge" diaphragm structure of the SMB-01L: the diaphragm responds quickly and loses little energy, giving deep, powerful bass with no loss of dynamics. Its frequency range, 10 Hz to 40 kHz, covers high-resolution audio.

On-ear headphones, compact and light

Its ear pads rest on the ear rather than surrounding it: these are on-ear (supra-aural) headphones. This design makes them more compact and lighter than their big brother, at 313 g. If you would rather have over-ear headphones whose pads fully enclose the ear (for example if you wear glasses), take a look at the Phonon SMB-01L: 50 mm driver, over-ear pads and semi-open plates included.

Closed as standard, semi-open as an option

Supplied in closed configuration, the SMB-02G provides useful isolation for recording and tracking. With the optional Phonon semi-open plates, it turns semi-open for mixing and hi-fi listening. Its detachable 3 m, 4-conductor cable, with independent left and right grounds, ends in a gold-plated 6.35 / 3.5 mm stereo plug: it moves easily from the studio's audio interface to the headphone amp in your living room.
