10" Analog Active Subwoofer with Passive Radiators

The Hippo is the subwoofer of Telegrapher's newer, more accessible passive radiator range, built around the Raccoon and Panda monitors. Handmade in Istanbul, it brings together a 25.5 cm driver, dedicated 250 W amplification and active analog filtering in a compact enclosure. The listed price is for one subwoofer (sold individually).

Passive radiators, analog filtering and dedicated amplification

Telegrapher, founded by RJ and Emery during Covid, designs its loudspeakers with the standards and processes of the luxury car industry. The Hippo uses side-mounted passive radiators: they extend the low end while keeping it fast, without the port noise of a bass-reflex vent. The 25.5 cm (10") driver is powered by a dedicated 250 W class D amplifier, with a stated THD+N of 0.003%.

Performance

Frequency response extends from 20 to 300 Hz and peak SPL reaches 102 dB at 1 m, figures suited to small and medium-sized studios. The subwoofer is protected by an automatic shutdown, indicated by a red LED, in case of electrical fault, high-frequency input or overheating.

Integration with Telegrapher monitors and controls

The 2nd-order low-pass filter is adjustable from 30 to 300 Hz to blend the subwoofer with the monitors. Phase is adjustable over 360° using the 0–180° potentiometer and the phase reverse switch, and gain ranges from −∞ to +6 dB. The Hippo has two balanced XLR inputs and two XLR through outputs that send the signal on to the monitors. Auto standby after 120 minutes can be disabled.

Applications

Paired with Raccoon or Panda monitors, the Hippo extends the low end of a home studio or production room without taking over the space, at 36 x 36 x 38 cm and 21.5 kg. It is available in Jaipur Orange and Trooper White, with a matte soft-touch finish.
