Compact coaxial speaker for immersive stereo monitoring
Selene is Ex Machina Soundworks' compact monitoring platform. It's designed for engineers and creators working in stereo, surround, or Atmos who demand impeccable spatial coherence in a small form factor, without compromising on reproduction accuracy. Selene incorporates Ex Machina's system approach and design principles into a more compact, modular, and scalable solution.
A design conceived for immersive workflows
Selene is based on a true coaxial architecture, designed to ensure identical performance on each channel. Unlike conventional satellite speakers often used for surround or height applications, Selene maintains a stable image, a consistent off-axis response, and temporal coherence essential for immersive sound. This approach delivers reliable tonal and spatial continuity, regardless of the system configuration.
Point source and spatial coherence
Selene's coaxial driver functions as a true point source. The midrange and treble share the same acoustic center, ensuring excellent phase coherence and a stable soundstage, even off-axis. This characteristic is particularly critical in post-production, editing, and immersive mixing, where the listener is not always positioned in a strict sweet spot.
Amplification and DSP outsourced via EXCore
Selene works with the external EXCore unit, which integrates amplification and DSP. Each pair has its own dedicated electronics, eliminating the need for shared amplification or processing between multiple speakers. This architecture ensures consistent performance regardless of installation size and greatly simplifies the deployment of complex multichannel systems.
The DSP is used exclusively to linearize the behavior of the speaker itself, without room correction or artificial voicing. The goal is to provide reliable and predictable reproduction, suitable for critical decisions.
Individual calibration and scalable system
Each Selene system is individually measured and calibrated before shipping. Firmware and calibration updates are performed remotely via Wi-Fi, allowing for continuous performance improvement over time. Selene can be used on its own as a compact stereo system, or paired with the Poseidon bass extension to create a cohesive, seamlessly integrated, and calibrated three-way system.
Applications
Selene is designed for immersive and Atmos monitoring, surround and multichannel setups, editing and post-production suites, as well as demanding compact stereo setups. It is equally suited to professional studios and constrained environments requiring a reliable, consistent, and scalable solution.
